After
bursting onto the Jamaican music scene in 1966, the Ethiopians swiftly became
one of Jamaica’s most popular vocal trios, cutting a series of best-selling 45s
for leading producer, Clement ‘Coxson’ Dodd. The following year, the group’s
Rock Steady anthem, ‘Train To Skaville’ breached the UK charts and introduced
the world at large to the sound of young Jamaica. A series of sublime
self-produced singles promptly followed, with the best of these subsequently
comprising their hugely collectable debut album, ‘Engine 54’. Now, 42 years
after its original release, Trojan Records have rereleased this seminal album on
CD under their 'Originals series' range: original artwork has been faithfully
reproduced, with the Jamaican analogue tapes from 1968 used for its mastering.
